The Sr. Technical Program Manager (TPM) in the Spoken Word Audio group (Audible) will have the unique opportunity to influence on product strategy by participating in customer research, competitive and industry analysis, identifying new opportunities and ultimately making recommendations and driving the development of programs at Audible.
The role will involve direct participation in all aspects of the software development life cycle, from defining strategy and architecture through development, deployment and support. The Sr. TPM will be responsible for establishing and driving project schedules to ensure on-time (high quality) delivery, working with the development team leaders to further develop and refine the software development processes, contributing to cross-functional technical and product expertise, assessing and managing risks, anticipating and resolving bottlenecks, providing escalation management, anticipating and making tradeoffs, and balancing the business needs with the technical constraints. They will credibly communicate with and influence business and technical stakeholders at all levels of leadership in Audible, other Digital Services teams and across Amazon.com; they will play a similar role with software engineers, systems architects, and other functional teams as necessary. The Sr. TPM will have the ability to look at the ‘forest and the trees’, understand service interdependencies, drive towards technical solutions for multi-tiered systems, mentor junior program managers, and assist in building effective teams.
Position Responsibilities
• Work effectively with other groups within Amazon to deliver Audible services that span multiple organizations, areas of business, and geographies.
• Lead significant technical/non-technical programs involving numerous cross-functional teams, while exhibiting strong consensus building skills.
• Establish, maintain, and drive integrated project schedules that account for the desired business result, internal/external dependencies, differing SDLC approaches, numerous constraints, and contingency plans, in order to ensure the on-time delivery of Audible programs.
• Ensure the delivery of high availability/high reliability software.
• Deliver Audible products, programs and services in all geographies that warrant investment.
• Participate in the definition of secure, scalable, and low-latency services.
• Define and drive the meeting/exceeding of SLAs (Service Level Agreements).

Candidate Educational & Experience Requirements
• BA/ BS required; Master’s degree preferred in mathematics, computer science, or related discipline
• 10+ years significant experience in software development or technical program management, and product development
• Prior hands-on software engineering experience as a software engineer, developer, etc.
• Experience leading development life cycle process and best practices
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale, highly available systems and quality software products
• Proven track record of delivering results in cross-functional dynamic environments (domain competency combined with excellent communication skills in influencing people across organizations to deliver results)
• Experience with Agile Management (SCRUM, RUP, XP), OO Modeling, working on internet, UNIX, Middleware, and database related projects
