Working at Audible
I think some of my favorite things at Audible, first is having been here almost 12 years there’s some great people here. I’ve worked as a developer, I’ve worked doing data warehouse stuff. I worked on some QA before coming back to development. The biggest thing right now for me is the fact that a lot of what I’m doing I get to deploy onto Amazon.com, seen by millions of people. And I’m working with a lot of really good development teams out of Seattle. I’m working on stuff with Kindle, working on how it integrates with Audible and the Amazon retail site.
Staying challenged
One of the reasons I’ve stayed with Audible for 12 years is that I’m really on my fourth job here. I started as a developer, and did a lot of back end integration with business partners, whether it was Apple or Amazon. Then I switched into the data warehouse, and was doing data warehouse development for a couple years and then was asked to switch into the quality assurance team and actually did site QA and a lot of internal tools for a couple years before switching back to being a developer. And I think that’s one of the things that has kept me here is that it’s challenged me, it’s pushed my envelope technically. Whether its new programming languages or new technologies or moving towards more of a data architectural role, Audible has pushed my envelope and pushed me to grow. That’s kept me happy and enjoying work everyday.
