Senior User Experience Designer, III

Audible is seeking an innovative, self-motivated user experience designer to work on features and improvements to our customer-facing web properties and software applications.

Utilizing principles of usability, user-centered design, information architecture, and scalable and dynamic user interface design, this position will drive the User Interface (UI) and customer experience for highly strategic business initiatives.

The Sr. User Experience Designer will develop process flows, wireframes, mockups and page/ application designs to effectively communicate both high-level design strategies and detailed page designs/user interactions, and will provide thought leadership in architecting both short and long-term design vision for customer-facing, transactional web experiences.

Responsibilities:

• Design the UI architecture, interface, interaction flow and aesthetics of web applications and web sites
• Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, prototypes, visual mockups and graphic assets
• Art direct/ design the visual design of the web and software applications
• Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications
• Build upon and expand established style guides and UI patterns
• Present design work to product and executive teams for review and feedback
• Promote usability best practices
• Guide technical and business teams in user-centered design principles

Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, user interface designer, information architect, or similar role
• An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating related experience
• Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs.
• Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques
• Familiarity with the technical considerations needed when designing for dynamic AJAX-based web 2.0 applications
• Visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver
• Ability to prototype in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and/or Flash is strong plus
• Ability to create illustrations for stylized graphic artwork and icons is a strong plus
• Demonstrated history of acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience; MFA degree preferred

Job Overview
The position of Director – Mobile Application will report to the VP of Business Development is an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to get involved with all aspects of the mobile strategy for a major Internet brand. Strong communication, negotiation, product management, and presentation skills are required.

Major Job Responsibilities:
• Assist in creating a roadmap for Audible’s mobile strategy with the focus of delivering applications that support an end-to-end Audible experience.
• Defining product release requirements and features aimed at achieving penetration growth in various mobile platforms.
• Work closely with the engineering team to track the progress of internal development to meet product release timeline and act as the single point of contact for the mobile business unit.
• Developing business plans for each platform launch that includes marketing and merchandising initiatives that support the current efforts of the business.
• Work cross functionally with the merchandise, marketing, engineering, and other business units to drive consensus in product development and launch cycles for each application.
• Source and develop partnerships with mobile companies, in addition to maintaining a close handle on the mobile industry and intimately following any meaningful trends from a software and hardware perspective.
• Responsible for growing the mobile business by driving membership and a la carte sales through each mobile application.
• Produce and analyze reports measuring the performance of existing partnerships.
Ability to design and/or approve high level contracts with external partners.

Software Dev Engineer in Test, Mobile

The Software Development Engineer in Test’s primary task is to white-box test our mobile products.  The test software you will build should expose API defects in production level code as well as defects at the component and feature levels. 

This is an extremely challenging role that demands strong technical leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with business and technical teams to define testing requirements and specifications
  • Designing and building testing tools for automated unit, functional and performance testing
  • Defining and executing test plans
  • Triaging and deep diving on issues
  • Communicating effectively to ensure that all business requirements are being assessed and addressed to ensure development projects meet or exceed performance targets
  • Participating in all activities accordingly to ensure on time deliverables are met including day-to-day planning and coordination with testers, developers, project managers and business representatives

Requirements:

  • 3+ years mobile platforms development and testing experience with a demonstrable product portfolio
  • Additional skills include services, web, Java, C++ and net protocols development and testing experience
  • UI, wireless, multimedia and e-commerce development and testing experience a plus
  • BS or MS preferred in Computer Science plus  5+ years industry experience, with at least 5 years of experience, which may be composed of at least 2 years as a developer and 3 years as a QA Engineer, or 5 years as an SDET
  • A solid grounding in Computer Science fundamentals
  • An outstanding track record in Quality Assurance
  • Solid coding practices including good design documentation, unit testing, peer code-reviews, and a preference for agile methods
  • Passion for building new mobile products in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
  • Robust project planning/execution skills including; estimating, scheduling and executing on committed schedules

Database Software Development Engineer

Job Overview:

The Database Software Development Engineer is a hands-on, technical position whose primary responsibility is the design, and implementation of data centric software solutions in a UNIX/Oracle/Java environment. The position requires working closely with Development, Audio Engineering, Metadata, Business Intelligence, Operations, and Finance. This candidate is required to have excellent hands-on abilities with Oracle database server products running on Sun Solaris. The ideal candidate also will have experience with XML, Internet, and Java E-Commerce technologies in a Web Services/SOA environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Development of Oracle stored procedures, packages, and triggers that effectively implement business and application related functions.
  • To understand existing applications with an eye towards making optimizations and enhancements.
  • Develop both Relational and XML Data Models and data access layers that implement business requirements, and allow for future flexibility and enhancements.
  • Adhere to excellent software design principles based on encapsulation and information hiding.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Evidence of having successfully transformed business requirements into data centric applications which include Oracle stored procedures, packages, and triggers as part of the eventual solution.
  • Evidence of having developed Data Models and data access layers that capture business requirements and relationships using both ER Modeling and XML DTD/Schema.
  • Evidence of detecting performance bottlenecks and debugging applications and the eventual recommendations and implementation of solutions to correct these flaws.
  • In-depth understanding of best-of-breed and emerging data technologies, standards, best practices, and their commercial application.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Have demonstrated a propensity to ‘think outside the box’, ask the right questions, and implement critical thinking when analyzing requirements, design, and implementation.
  • 5 years of Oracle Database development experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL. Experience in designing and optimizing Oracle stored procedures, packages, and triggers.
  • Experience in tuning SQL statements, using Oracle Explain Plan or other relevant tool.
  • Experience with Relational data modeling and XML DTD/Schema design. Experience implementing data access layers in a Web Services/SOA environment.
  • Solid experience with E-Commerce applications and Internet/Java technologies.
  • BS required. Further relevant business education a plus.
